There was a time when a low cost hotel did not include a free breakfast. The “perk” was that it would be connected to some chain restaurant. More than likely the parent corporation was the same. Then the Hilton and Holiday Inn corporations began to offer free breakfasts in their lobbies. Pretty soon all hotel corporations had to compete with free breakfast. Depending on the room rate, travelers could get a pretty good idea of what they would be eating in the morning.
Hampton Inn, which is part of the Hilton Corporation, asks a little higher room price, but the breakfast is almost as good as the one you’ll get at an area restaurant. It includes hot foods, like eggs and sausage, and there is fruit and cereals, too. Bagels and waffles and such are usually part of the fare as well. The meal is served in a hotel lobby that doubles as a nice little restaurant setting. Many business travelers choose Hampton Inn due to the moderate room cost that includes very comfortable rooms and beds and a superior free breakfast.
The Holiday Inn hotel chain put the competive pressure on years earlier with their “kids eat free” campaign. From there, the corporate competition took it to a total free breakfast pitch. Now La Quinta, Best Western, Holiday Inn, and many private hotels offer some form of free breakfast as a value added perk. Room prices typically reflect the morning menu selection.
